Job Retention Scheme – Covid-19
From 1 September the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) or “furlough scheme” has made several changes. The scheme will now only pay up to 70% of wages for any time spent on furlough leave, up to a cap of £2,187.50.
Employers are obliged to ensure that employees receive 80% of their usual pay for spent on furlough leave (capped £2,500). To ensure there are no issues surrounding deduction from wages claims the difference between these two figures should be topped up by employers.
Companies must continue to fulfil contractual benefits and pay NI contributions and pension contributions during the furloughed period.
